Abstract
The role of hepatitis B viral infection in the genesis of glomemlar injury was examined by a prospective analysis of 393 hospitalized patients in whom 4 viral markers (HBsAg, HBeAg, Anti-HBs, Anti-HBc) and at least one simultaneous urinalysis were obtained. The frequeney of abnorrr.al urine findings was not different among groups with 1) HBV antigen only, 2) both antigen(a) and antibody (ies), 3) antibody (ies) only and 4) nei- ther antigen (s) nor antibody (ies). The results of this study confirm the findings of the retrospective study which suggested that hepatitis B viral infection has no important role in the genesis of glomerular injury. Future study is necessary, however, to confirm these observations by a longterm follow up of those with HBV antigenemia.
