Abstract
In order to evaluate the relationship between hepatitis B markers and renal diseases in adult, the serum hepatitis B markers including HBsAg, HBeAg, Anti-HBs, Anti-HBc and Anti-Hbe antib- odies were examined in 107 cases with various renal diseases. The overall positivity of HBsAg in renal cases was 26. 2,, and that in cases with nephrotic syn- drome was 29.2%. HBsAg was also detected in 3 of 8 patients with mesangial proliferative glomeru- lonephritis and 1 of 5 cases with membranoprolife- rative glomerulonephritis and focal and segmental glomerulosclerosis, respectively. However, in 9 cases with membranous glomerulonephritis 5(55. 6 %) were found to have both HBsAg and HBeAg and 5(71.4%) of 7 cases with nephrotic syndrome who had both HBsAg and HBeAg were cases of membranous glomerulonephritis. In summary, the positivity of HBeAg in various renal diseases was highest in cases with membr- anous nephropathy. Accordingly, among 3 antigen markers of hepatitis B virus, HBeAg seemed to be strongly related with membranous nephropathy.
