| Abstract |
|
Chronic renal lesion with membranous changes and massive proteinuria similar to human membranous nephropathy was induced in Sprague-Dawley rats through repeated injections of isolgous renal cortical extracts together with Freund's complete adjuvant and pertussis vaccine. The use of pertussis vaccine in addi- tion to Freunds adjuvant resulted in increase in severity and incidence of glomerular lesions. Besides typical glomerular lesions representing membranous ne- phropathy were noted several mesangial or subendothe- lial deposits, the pathogene city of which is not clear. In comparison with the prominent glomerular lesions, tubulointerstitial and vascular changes were mild or absent. The above experimental model may be used to understand the alterations in glomerular morphology and function that accompany human membranous neph- ropathy. |
