Abstract
Intraocular pressure (IOP) was measured before and within 30 minutes after hemodialysis in 14 patients receiving regular treatment over 6 months. BUN, creatinine, plasma osmolarity, blood pressure and body weight before and after dialysis were also determined. Each patients received dialysis for 4 to 5 hours at 150 -200 ml/min of blood fiow and 150-200 mmHg of trans- membranous pressure (TMP). The results are as follows: 1) IOP before hemodialysis was 13.6±3.4 mmHg in the left eye and 13.4±3.1mmHg in the right eye, IOP after dialysis was 14.1±4.5 mmHg in the left eye and 14. 4± 4.8 mmHg in the right eye. The IOP did not decrease significantly after hemodialysis for 4 to 5 hours. 2) The plasma osmolaryity before hemodialysis was 322.6±27.3 mOsm/1 and decreased significantly to 304. 3±20.5 mOsm/1 after dialysis (p<0.01) 3) The body weight, BUN and creatinine decreased significantly after hemodilaysi < 0.01). 4) The blood pressure before hemodialysis was 123. 6±10.4 mmHg and did not decrease significantly to 120. 5±15.2 mmHg after hemodialysis. 5) The IOP of uremic patients was less than normal IOP which was 17.2±2.3 mmHg in the right eye, and 15. 3±2.5 mmHg in the left eye (p<0.05).
