Abstract
Tetanus is a disease manifested by uncontrolled muscle spasms, resulting from the action of the potent neurotoxin as tetanospasmin, produced by Clostridium tetani. Acute renal failure caused by rhabdomyloysis and myoglobinuria is one of the serious complications of tetanus, however its frequency seems to be very rare. A 32-year old female patient who complained trismus, neck stiffness had suffered from otalgia and ear dis- charge for nine days before admission. We could diag- nose her disease as tetanus based on history and clinical manifestation. Her laberatory results showed the elevaed serum CK, LDH levels and positive urine myog- lobin. She was treated by 3 times of hemodialysis and 2 times of plasmapheresis and supprtive care during the admission. We report a case of acute renal failure caused by rhabdomyolysis and myoglobinuria in tetanus patient with review of the literatures.
