Abstract
The presence of impaired glucose metabolism and insulin resistance has long been recognized in patients with chronic renal failure. Insulin resistance in patients with chronic renal failure may contribute to the increased incidence of atherosclerosis, involve lipid and protein metabolism snd play a role in pro- gression of renal disease. Steroid induced insulin resi- stance may depend on either reduced sensitivity or reduced response to insulin. We, therefore compared insulin resistance of prednisolone to deflazacort after oral glucose tolerance test including glucose, insulin, and C peptide values in 10 patients with chronic renal failure.
