Abstract |
Proteinuria is one of the markers of renal disease. Distribution of proteinuria may provide a useful noninvasive method to evaluate a renal disease. SDS- PAGE can differentiate proteinuria according to their molecular size. Authors studied 36 patients with glomerular disease proven by renal biopsy using PhastSystem . Among 36 patients, 18 had mixed unselective glomerulotubular proteinuria, 9 selective glomerular proteinuria, 7 unselective glomerlar proteinuria, 2 mixed selective glomerulotubular proteinuria. There was no significant correlation between distribution of proteinuria and pathologic changes. Correlation between distribution of pro- teinuria and clinical parameters including hyper- tension, hematuria, hypoalburninemia, azotemia, and amount of 24 hours urine protein was studied. The result showed statistically significant differ- ence in hematuria and amount of 24 hours urine protein (p<0.05). Correlation between distribution of proteinuria and histopathologic glomerular and tubular change was studied. There was statistically significant correlation between tubular proteinuria and histopathologic tubular change (p<0.05). Although the above results suggest that SDS- PAGE is a sensitive and simple method to differen- tiate proteinuria, more investigation is needed for its use in clinical practice. |
