| Abstract |

A 30-year-old man with a 4-year history of ankylosing spondylitis presented proteinuria and upper gastrointestinal bleeding. Amyloidosis was diagnosed on renal and jejunal biopsy. The association of secondary amyloidosis has been described with collagen vascular diseases, however, a review of the literature reveals few cases associated with the ankylosing spondylitis. Thus, although a rare complication, amyloidosis should be considered in a differential diagnosis of proteinuria and renal insufficiency and gastrointestinal bleeding in ankylosing spondylitis. |
