Abstract
Since lysozyme is known to be fiitered through glomerulus and completely reabsorbed in renal tub- ular cells, this enzyme should be shown up in the urine of patient with renal disease. The authors is reporting the lysozyme values taken from the plasma and urine of patients suffer- ing from renal diseaser. Results are as follows. L. In normal persons, lysozyme activity was 73. 6 ±11. 9 pg/min/ml in plasma ar.d 4. 8±3. 2 pg/min/ml in urine. 2. In 9 nephrotic syndrome patients, lysozyme activity ivas 91. 9±43. 3 pg/min/ml in plasma and 95. 9±157. 7 pg/min/ml in urine. 8. In diabetes with nephropathy, the values incr- eased both in plasma(252.8±125.6pg/min/ml) and urine (186.5±243.9pg/min/ml), while in diabetes without nephropathy, the changes of the value were not significant. 4. 1n 5 chronic renal failures, lysozyme activity was 238. 9±100. 1 mg/min/ml in plasma ond 22l. 6± 197. 9 mg/min/ml in nrinc. In 4 acute rcnal faitures, lysozyme activit' wa remarkably increased both in ptasma and In urine. The abovc results suggest the measurement of lysozyme in plusma and urine be helpful in the diagnosis of rcnal discase, specially in determining nephrotic coniplication in diabetes melitus.
