Abstract
ACE inhibitor became one of popular form of effective antihypertensive therapy. Fosinopril (Monopril) is a new ACE inhibitor recently made available for the treatment of hypertension. To evaluate the efficacy and side effects of Fosinopril, once daily therapy was done in 20 patients with essential hypertension. Patients seated diastolic blood pressure respons to fosinopril treatment was normal 80%(16/20), responsive 10(2/20) and no response 10%(2/20). After 2 weeks of fosinopril therapy, the average percentage changes in systolic and diastolic BP were 9. 3/9. 7%(10 mg), 7 0/8. 1%(20 mg), 4. 9/3 .2%(30mg), 1.3/0%(40mg) and 1. 3/2. 0%(40mg+ thiazide). Fosinopril was well tolerated. Only two patients withdrew because of adverse events possibly related to Fosinopril (hyperkalemia & cough). In conclusion, treatment with Fosinopril generally was safe and well tolerated. Once-daily Fosinopril was an effective antihypertensive for 24 hours in some patients with essential hypertension and a clinical study of larger number of patients will be needed.
