| Abstract |
|
Rifampin is used widely in the treatment of tuberculosis. Hepatotoxic jaundice, thrombocytopenia, hemolysis and renal failure is a rare and severe complication associated with the nse of rifampin. Recently, we experienced a case of hemolytic ane- mia, acute renal failure and hepatitis due to rifampin. A 57 years old female took intermittent antituberculosis drugs including rifampin since she bda been diagnosed as renal tuberculosis one year ago and she developed acute renal failure, intravascular hemolysis, and hepatitis after recent readministration of rifampin. Kidney and liver biopsy revealed acute tubular necrosis and acute hepatitis with cholestasis. The rifampin dependent antibodies were also identified by indirect antiglobulin test in the presence of rifampin. She recovered slowly after discontinution of rifampin and intensive medical care. So we report this case with a brief review of literature. |
